Tuhi, the murderer of Miss Dobie at Opunake, was executed in Wellington gaol at eight this morning. He walked firmly on to the scaffold, and was accompanied by Archdeacon Stock. The drop was eight feet, and death was instantaneous. * NELSON, December 29. Charge of LarcenyMrs Wymond and Alphonso Wymond, remanded from Christchurch on a charge of larceny of goods belonging to the estate of T. S. Wymond, draper, appeared this morning, but the case was adjourned until to-morrow. DUNEDIN, December 29; Volunteering. The Clutha Rifles intend sending a team of five men to the Nelson meeting. TIMARU, December 29i A Row betw.eea Railway Officials* A private detective has been employed for somo time past on the Christchurch and Timaru section of she railway, and the action of the department has created a general feeling of uneasiness, and disgust among the railway operatives. The matter has culminated in a fracas between Mr Baci, the traffic manager, and Mr Galbraith, station master at Washdyie, who, from information received, had been suspended on the ground of alleged irregularities in his books. Mr Galbraith, who has bean for many years in railway employ, threatened to be the death of Mr Back, and Mr Back prosecuted him be-fore, the Bench to-day. Mr Galbraith pleaded that he had been subjected to the surveillar.ee of Mr : Back's detective. The information was dismissed through an informality, but Mr Bsok intimated that he would take fresh proceedings. AUCKLAND, December 28. SuicideOn Christmas Day the Hon. H. B. Bear, who was a passenger from Sydney by the Botorus, committed suicide by shooting- himself. He is supposed to belong to the Upper House of Parliament of Queensland. He wae buried at sea. Fiji Mews The Winifred, which arrived to-day from Fiji, brings files to the 15th October. Th* Lonisana arrived at Lakamba, after being twenty-one days at sea. One man died from exhaustion, and the survivors were in an emaciated condition. Fifty firearms held by Polynesian laborers without licenses have been seized. The cutter May Queen is missing. Riots among the foreign laborers, are becoming more frequent. Catholic BazaarThe Catholic bazaar in aid of the new cathedral fund closed to-night, and realised over £BOO. Sale of Foul Play. The raeehorse Foul Play, winner of the Auckland Cup, has been sold by his owner, Mr H. P. Lance, with all engagements, for £650, to Fred Matthews, hut it is understood that he is only an agent. Mr Perceval, secretary of the Auckland Baring Club, started a subscription for the widow of Nolan, the deceased jockey, and in a few hours £IOO were subscribed. Native Mews. Intelligence from the King Country reports that Tawhaio is establishing a large settlement at Kawhaia, and constructing a road in order to connect that place with Hikurangi. The Natives have repaired an old flour mill, and propose to ereot another at Kawhaia. They profess to be anxious for peace, and disclaim any sympathy with Parihaka or the murder of Miss Dobie. There is a dispute between two sections of the Ngatimaniopoto, under Bewi andHanauru respectively. The former recently placed Messrs Tole on a disputed block of land near Orakau, but Hanauru, representing the objectors, turned off the surveyor, and threatened to burn down Messrs Tole's house, which was erected on the block. A mati named Charles Bath, who went fishing yesterday, is missing. Accident to the Grafton* On the return trip of the s.s. Grafton on an excursion to Nelson she had the foremast and maintopm*Bt carried away in a breeze, but fortunately no passengers were injured. On examination it was found that the masts were rotten, and new ones are being stepped. FEATHEBSTON, December 28. Fire. The Wesleyan Chapel has been completely destroyed by fire, which commenced at 3.20. Not a stick has been left standing. DUNEDIN, December 28. Agricultural Show. The Taieri Agricultural Show was held Soday, and was very successful. Attendance large, and exhibits of good quality.
