In their second innings eight wickets have been lost for 247 runs. Gregory made 85. MELBOURNE, December 29. The Suez Mail. The P. and O. Company's s.s. Cathay, with the Inward Suez mail dated London, November 19 th, arrived last night from Galle. BRISBANE, December 29 Destructive FireA destructive fire occurred last night at the wharves at Petrie's Bight on Brisbane river. It broke out at night and raged for some time, doing considerable damage to property, though the destruction was not so great as it was at first feared it would be. The actual extent of the loss is not yet known. The insuran?es comprise £2OOO in the South British, half of which is re-insured with the National and Colonial of New Zealand; also, £BOO in the Standard and £3OO in the National.
