[i'kb fbbss AseociAnoK special wtbh.] AUCKLAND, December 22. The Midge, which arrived from Levuka this morning, brings the following items : The Union Bank is about to open a branch establishment at Levuka.
Samuel Durger, arrested for drunkenness, and sentenced to twenty-four hours' imprisonment, died in the lock-up from alcoholic poison. Preparations are being made for the reception of Governor Des Yosux. An address of welcome has been prepared, and triumphal arches erected.
A disgraceful fraoas has occurred between foreign laborers at Yogadan, in which somo serious injuries were sustained. The affair arose out of a quarrel between an Oba and Sodom man, both servants of one household. The quarrel was espoused by nearly twelve hundred men of the two nationalities, and a battle was fought on the cricket ground. Stones and sticks were freely used. One man had his jaw badly fractured, and numbers are suffering from severs cuts and contusions. It was found necessary to remove them to the hospital, and in the evening many of the rioters were arrested by policemen, brought before the Bench, and remanded for eight days.
