CORRESPONDENCE.

The following letter appeared in this morning’s issue of the “Press MARKET SQUARE. TO THE BDITOB OP THE MESS. Sib,—l was pleased to see in your Monday’s issue a letter in which the writer drew the attention of the public to the disgraceful condition of the Market Place, referring also to some action ab ut to be taken by the residents in the locality. Certainly it is the residents themselves that should move in the matter, for if ever any section of the community had a just cause for grievance, it is the unlucky inhabitants of that part of the city living in the midst of untidyness and indecency. And the worst of it is so long as the Council neglect the locality it is almost hopeless to expect any substantial improvement from individual effort Any stranger strolling through that part of the Cathedral City must be struck with astonishment that the authorities should be so inconsiderate as to allow so exceedingly valuable a site to be not only totally neglected, but actually to become a mere depot for superannuated stonebreakers. An enterprising caterer to the public appetite is doing his best to bring the old poet office into and if the City Council would also do its best, the residents might be encouraged to assist in raising the place up to the standard of a decent respectability. I wish the movers every success. Yours, &c., Sdffbeeb.
