INQUESTS.

We mentioned in yesterday's issue the sudden death of Mr G. Broodley at the Kaiapoi Woolen Factory. An inquest was held in the afternoon before Dr. Dudley, coroner, and a jury of which Mr G. H. Blackwell was foreman. Evidence was given th»t the deceased's age was forty-nine. Emma Bowen deposed that she saw deceased drop dead between two of the machines, and that he did not move again. A. G. Broadley, son of deceased, stated that he saw his father in the mill lying on his back. He lifted him up, but he never moved or spoke. His father had enjoyed good health up to the time of his death. Dr. Otenden, who made a post mortem examination, reported the cause of death to be from rupture of the aorta of the heart. The jury returned a verdict of " Died from natural causes." Deceased has been seven years in the colony, five of which he was chief carder at the Kaikori mills, Otago, in which district he and his family were well known. He leaves a wife and six other members of hia family to mourn his loss, the youngest being a young man who is at present Buffering from the effects of an accident to his arm. An inquest was held before Dr. Trevor, coroner yesterday, in the Ashburlon Hospital, touching the death of Patrick Maguire, who died from the effects of an injury he had received on the previous Sunday by falling from a trap at Barrhill. The evidence of Dr. Eoss showed that the whole of the_ trap had passed over his neck, breaking the spinal cord, and the jury verdict of " Accidental Death."
