POPULAR SPORTS.

A meeting of the above committee was held yesterday. Present—Mr Andrews (chairman), Messrs Hebden, Warner, Samuels, Davie (2), Alport, Cogan, E. Farr, Drewitt, Gapes, Wolkden and Haskins (cocretary). The business generally before the committee was of a routine character. A letter was read from the Colonial Secretary's offioe intimating that the public offices would be closed on the 16fcb. A letter from Mr KavenhiU, who purchased the right to erect two booths on the sport} ground, was read, asking to be allowed to build only one booth, which would provide sufficient accommodation and be of greater convenience to him. After some consideration, during which it was pointed out that the committee had only to consider the convenience of the public, it was determined to adhere to the conditions of sale. The matter of letting the sites for minor sports, &0., was relegated to the ground committee. Messrs T. B. Jacobsen and Samuel Clarkson were elected members of the committee. It was resolved to arrange the handicapping for publication in Saturday's papers, and some minor matters having been disposed of, the committee adjourned, after passing a vote of thanks to Mr F. O. Hall for past services connected with the committee, Mr Hebden suggesting, that in the event of this year's sports proving successful in a pecuniary sense, they might present that gentleman with a suitable testimonial.
