FRIENDLY SOCIETIES FETE COMMITTEE.

A meeting of above committee took place last evening at the Foresters' Hall, with a fair attendance of members. Letters were read from Colonel Packe, declining to act as judge in the bayonet competition, in consequence of his absence from Ohristchurch; from Captain Warner, declining in consequence of it being his intention to send a competing company; from Major Lean accepting the position of judge in above-named competition; from Superintendents Harris, Gulliver, Blackwell. and Sowdon, accepting the positions of judges in the fire brigade drill competition ; from the popular sports committee, agreeing to lend the ropes and small flags, the property of their oommittee ; from the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, thanking the committee for invitation to the Orphan Asylum inmates, and accepting the same. The members of committee holding art-union tickets were requested to make a return of those sold at the next meeting, to be held on Friday, December 17th. The Art Union committee reported that the Art Onion tickets were selling very rapidly ; also, that the prizes were to be seen in the various tradesmen** shop windows ; also, that the first prize, a section of land, is situated immediately opposite the Addington workshops. Mr Borland reported that Dr. Campbell had kindly given £5 5s as a special prize for needlework, to be competed for by daughters of members of Friendly Societies under fourteen. Resolved that same be accepted with thanks, details to be left to a sub-oommittee. The marshals brought up their report re the order of procession, which, after a considerable amount of discussion, was held over till next meeting. The ground oommittee brought up a report of labour required to be done, which was amonded and adopted. The committee then adjourned to Friday, December 17th, at 7.30 p.m. ___^__ —< ._„_
