DUNEDIN SEEING BAOES. [PKB PRESS ASSOCIATION BPBCIAIi WIRE.] DUNEDIN, November 30. The Dunedin J.O. Annual Spring Meeting opened this morning very inauspiciously, rain getting in about noon and falling heavily and steadily throughout the greater part of the afternoon. The attendance was consequently greatly lessened ; still, there were a good number of spectators. The following are the results of the different events ; Handicap Hdedlk Back, of 35 aovs. One mile and a half. Mr J. H. Lunn’a b g Clarence, aged, list 41b (Mr H. Bradley) 1 Mr H. Gourlay’s ch gKildare, aged, 9st 101 b (J. Cotton) 2 Mr Q. Smith’s br m Antoinette, aged, Set 41b (Poole) 3 Mr D. McMaater’s ch g Scamp, aged, lOst 71b (J. Allen) 0 Mr E. Barrett’s hr m Levant, 6 yrs, 9st 41b (carried lOst 31b) (Mr Culling) 0 Betting—6 to 4 agst Clarence, 2 to 1 agst Scamp and Levant. At the fall of tho flag Scamp and Levant went away in front, Kildare and Antoinette next, with Clarence last of all All got over the first hurdle safely, but at half a mile Levant had, through hanging at the jumps, fallen back fourth, Kildare and Clarence being in attendance on Scamp, Antoinette whipping. In going round to the back of tho course Kildare closed on Scamp, and the pair raced away side by side two lengths ahead of Clarence. At the mile hurdle Scamp struck, and falling on his head broke his neck, Allen fortunately escaping with a shaking. Clarence then got to Kildare’s head, and the two came away together six lengths ahead of Levant, who fell at the next hurdle, and took no more part in the race. A bit of a struggle took place up the straight between Clarence and Kildare, bnt the farmer had the best of it, and won easily by three lengths, Antoinette was a bad third, but Levant’s 131bs overweight effectually stopped her. Time—3min. ISiseca. Maiden Plate. Mr T. George’s ch f Nautilus, 3 yrs, 7st 71b (Thompson) 1 Mr H. Goodman’s ch o Sylvanns, 3 yrs, 7st 21b (Endings) 2 Mr W. H. A poor start gave Nautilus a decided lead, and Thompson made the best of it passing the stand a dozen lengths ahead of the rest. Sylvanus and Tasma ran off, and gave third place to Concrete. The further they went the wider the gap became between Nautilus and her two followers, who came on side by side until a quarter of a mile from home, when Sylvanus made his effort, and gained a few lengths on the filly. The latter however came away again and won as she liked by a dozen lengths. Concrete was a bad third. Time—2min. 27isecs. St. Andrew’s Handicap, 100 bovb ; two miles. Mr T.
