AQUATICS.

UNION EOWING CLUB. The weather on Saturday was anything but agreeable for boating, especially for sculling without a cox., the wind being so high at times that it took the boats out of their course into the weeds, the latter taking up half the river and being very plentiful at this time of the season. The event for the afternoon was the Handicap Sculling Bace, one mile; Pratt’s to the Willows; course up stream. Prize, Mr 0. Lezard's cup, value £3. The following are the results : First Heat—G. F. Wright, scratch, Dione, South bank, 1; O. F. Bowloy, scratch, Dido, North bank, 2. After a couple of false starts the two got away well together. The Dione soon began to forge ahead, and won easily by three lengths. Second Heat—F. Fuller, scratch, Dione, South bank, 1; J. E. Johnston, scratch, Dido, North bank, 2. Johnston got quickest away at the word “ off,” and when half way was leading by two lengths. Fuller, not to be beaten, gradually crept up and took a foremost place at the bridge, and won a good race by two lengths. Third Heat—James'W. Shand, two lengths, Dione, South bank, 1; E. H. Woledge, six lengths, Dido, North bank, 2. Shand soon closei the gap between the boats, and rounding Oowlishaw's corner had the race wall in hand to the finish, winning the best race of the day by one length. Fourth Heat—G.F. Wright, scratch, North bank, Dido, 1 ; F. Fuller, scratch. South bank, Dione, 2. Both boats got well away, but Fuller, as usual, tried the overland route, and on getting clear again went after his opponent, who had got a strong lead of six lengths. Fuller rowed a plucky stem race, only loosing by three-quarters of a length. Final Heat —James W. Shand, two lengths, south bank, Dione, 1; G. F. Wright, scratch, north bank. Dido, 2. The Dione was first to grip the water, and soon increased the handicap, and from this the race was never in doubt, Shand winning easily by plenty to spare. All through Wright rowed hard to the finish. Mr S. 0. Kesteven acted as starter. The next event on the programme is the Junior Fours on December 11th, for which four crews have entered.
