PROPERTY SALE.

Canterbury still holds a pre-eminence for solidity and stability in the sale of land over the neighbouring provinces, and if proof is wanting one only has to pay a visit to the land and estate sale rooms of Messrs H Matson and Co,, the fact being verified only on Saturday last, when the Village of South Opawa was submitted to public competition. The attendance was very large, the sale rooms being crowded to excess. Biddings were active, and although some of the properties were passed in, others found ready purchasers. The following is a resume of the sale Nos. 31, containing, 24p, £105; 29. 40p, £BS; 28, 40p, £7O; 26, 40p, .£6O; 32,'47p, £122 10s ; 2,30 p, £BS ; 51, 40p, £BO ; 50, 30p, £54; 71, 29p, £56; 52, 22p, £46; 4,40 p, £6O; 7,40 p, £6O; 47, 26p, £4l; 53, 26p, £44; 61, 27p, £45; 30, 39p, £105; 27. 40p, £7O; 25, 40p, £6O; 5,40 p, £6O;. 1,40 p, £BS; 3,41, £BS; 63, 35p, £75; 49, 32p, £56; 48, 22p, £46; 62, 35p. £6O : 6,40 p. £64 ; 64, 49p, £6O; 46, 30p, £45; 54. 30p, £44. The analysis of the above sale is as follows, viz., 29 sections were disposed of, containing 6a Ir 23p, averaging £66 11s per section, or £3Ol 17s Id per acre. Total amount of the sale, £1930. 412 acres, known as Valetta, situate at Ashburton, cold by order of the Registrar cf the Supreme Conrt, realised £824; also, a 5 acre paddock adjoining the township of South Opawa, was sold for £1250. The gross amount of the sale waa £4004.
