At a meeting, which was being addressed by Mr Parnell at Athlone, the platform had been sawn through, and collapsed with the crowd upon it. Owing to a rumor of invasion by sympathisers with the victims of the Land League, a great part of Mayo is arming. 6 r November 10. The Orangemen are preparing for an invasion of the country on which the Land League has been at work, for the purpose of reaping the crops. A tenant farmer named Bycoofc, being a victim of the League at Ballinroob, County Mayo, and a disturbance being apprehended, a strong military force has been despatched to the spot. A stormy scene has occurred in the French Benate, owing to the intense feeling displayed by the members of the Bight on the subject of the decrees for the expulsion of the Jesuits from Frarce. November 11. The " Times " demands the suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act in Ireland, with a view of more effectually dealing with the present agitation. The American journals with the exception of a few of the Democratic papers, condemn the action of Mr Parnell in connection with the agitation in Ireland.
The demand for Sir Charles Gavan Duffy's historical work entitled "Young Ireland" has been so great that a second edition was immediately issued. A company has been registered in London, with a capital of £300,000, to import Australian meat into England. The troops whioh were engaged in starving out the Monastery of Tarasooen, in Prance, contrived to enter the building by a subway. November 13.
In the Nihilist trials which have taken place, several of the accused have been found guilty and condemned to death. Goldenfburg, the assassin of General Krapotine, turned informer before he committed suicide. He revealed the whole system and various plots for the murder of the Emperor of Bussia. He assigned as a reason for revealing the system, that it was not calculated to effect its objeot, namely, the establishment of a Constitutional Government in Russia. November 15. The City Guilds are making great efforts for the establishment of a Technical College in South Kensington, in the hope of rendering the report of the Royal Commissions innoxious. The speech delivered by. Mr Gladstone at the Lord Mayor's banquet oh the 9th inst. has tended to lessen the distrust felt with reference to the foreign' policy of. Great Britain. The foreign press interprets the Premier's utterance to mean that England is abandoning her isolated action with: regard to Greece. A relief party of Orangemen, about fifty in number, from Monahan, arrived at Boyooot's Lough Mask House to-day. They reached Ballinroob unmolested. A force of 7000 (?) military and police, including artillery, were sent for yesterday, and are now between Ballinroob and Claremorris towns, county Mayo. "
