SYDENHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual meeting of the Sydenham Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers' last evening at seven o'clock. Present—His "Worship the Mayor, Councillors Pavitt, White, Day, Andrews, Hall, Joyce, Lang* down, and Nisholl. A letter was read from the Bev. T. B. Fisher, calling attention to a nuisance existing near the Gaol, Addington. The Town Clerk stated that the matter had been attended to. A letter was read from Mr J. W. Smith, calling attention to holes in the footpath at Sandridge; also, stating' that it was very probable, if neglected, that typhoid fever might rpsult. Beferred to the sanitary committee. The works committee reported that Mr Neighbours had been advised that his request for railway siding would be granted, subjeet to a fee of £7 7s for the first year, and an annual rent of £5 ss, the siding to be constructed in accordance with conditions to be imposed by the committee; also, that the committee saw no reason to alter its views respecting Messrs Greig and Hunter's claim for extras re the Heathoote bridge After some discussion, the report was adoptedCouncillor Hall moved, and it was resolved. " That, with a view of settling the question of Messrs Greig and Hunter's claim, the works committee be instructed to deal as favourably with them as possible." The lighting committee's report.recsmmending that the kerosene lamps should be lit daring the summer months, was agreed to. The finance committee reported the fortnight's receipts to be £354 5s Id; expenditure, £57 18s 6"d; credit balance at bank, £BB6 3s 43. They also reported, that in consequence of the stoppage of the Government subsidy, they had asked the works committee to bring forward their original estimates for the .■ six months ending Maroh 31st, 1881. The report was agreed to. - After some routine business had been transacted, the Council adjourned.
