"ROBINSON CRUSOE" AT THE ACADEMY.

There is scarcely any story perhaps that ever was written which has been productive of more delight to the children of all ages than "Robinson Crusoe." It has become as it were part of our nursery lore, and therefore one feels great interest in sesing how the old story tells under its new dresß of pretty musio, handsome dresses, and last, but by no means least, lively young ladies. This is supplied by the troupe, under the leadership of Miss Lydia-Howarde, who has long been a prime favorite with playgoers here, and whose brilliant season of opera bouffe will be remembered. The piece was put on the stage with every attention to detail, and went capitally. Miss Howarde as Robinson Crusoe gave us a fancy picture of the well-known recluse, and if we are to believe the burlesque version, Robinson musthave had a high time on the island. The introduced songs, "Bid me disoourse," and "Nancy Lee," were rondered with much spirit and success by Miss Howarde. The florid musio of the former particularly was given in a manner deserving high commendation. Indeed, throughout the piece, Misß Howarde was capita). She was ably supported by Mdlle. De Glorian, who made her first appearance here in the oharacter of Angelica. This lady possesses all the advantages requisite for success in burlesque, and created a very favorable impression. She sang a seriocomic song " Awfully Awful," with an amount of spirit and force whioh drew forth loud plaudits. Miss Blanch Leopold, as one of the pratty pirates was good, and her dancing something new and exceedingly artistic. Mdlle. Murielle made a very good queen, and sang "Isit a Dream," Bicely. Miss Andrews, who by the way hos greatly improved since her last appearance, was successful as Folly Hopkins. Mr George Leopold can safoly congratulate himself upon having achieved a most decided success. His Jem Cocks was a most exquisite piece of fooling, the scraps of the drama which he introduces being given with the true tragedy roll of your legitimate aotor. Mr Leopold is one of those actors whose fun is contagious. You cannot help laughing even when he is doing some absurdity,_ and his power of facial expression is something wonderful. His burlesque of a danseuse is irresistibly amusing. Mr Power's Friday was also in its way a great sucoess. Two stars shine not in the same hemisphere, hence two comedians can scarcely be expected to shine in the same piece to an equal extent; but still Mr Power is exceedingly droll. His Fijian national anthem is still to the fore, and is as lucidly melodious as ever. Mr Fisher plays the pirate oaptain with care and success, and Messrs Marshall and Mowry deserve a word for the rendering of their parts. Mr Shepperson deserves credit for the admirable manner in which the piece was produced, and the attention to details displayed by him.
