EDUCATION BOARD.

The Education Board for the North Canterbury district met yesterday afternoon, there being present —Mr William Montgomery (acting chairman), and Messrs Tancred, Cunningham, Webb, Bowen, Stevens and the Rev. Charles Eraser. A number of routine matters were attended to, and several reports from inspectors were laid on the table. Of these two or three were understood to reflect on the efficiency of certain schools, and Mr Montgomery suggested that it might be advisable to take the consideration of such matters in open meeting, the effect of which might be to induce greater vigilance and care on the part of teachers generally. At the same time, he did not wish to make any change in the course of procedure during the absence of the permanent chairman. A letter was read from the Board’s solicitor to the effect that the recent election on the Little Akaloa school committee was illegal. The remainder of the business was transacted in committee.
