In the Legislative Assembly last night a motion, introduced by Sir Bryan O’Longhlin, declaring that the mode proposed by the Government for the reduction of salaries in the civil service is illegal, was carried by 26 to 24. Duty on CigarsMr Clarke, Commissioner of Trade and Customs, proposes that the duty on cigars should be increased by one shilling per pound. SYDNEY, November 3.
