EAST CHRISTCHURCH SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The above committee held a special meeting on Monday evening. All the members present but Mr Wbyte. The chairman reported the result of the conference of representatives of the West Christchurch and Sydenham school committees on the question of holidays, Mr Malcolm representing the Normal school. The committee approved of the same, and ordered an intimation to be made to the Education Board to the effect. The following wore the holidays agreed upon, viz:—That the school year be divided into terms; that the first term end on the last Friday in the month of April, the second term on the last Friday in the month of August, and that the vacation in each case be|of a fortnight’s duration. The Christmas vacation to commence on or about the 15th December, and terminate the first Monday after the 21st January; also that Good Friday, the Queen’s and Prince of Wales’ Birthdays, and all public holidays be the only additional holidays allowed in the school year. A sub-committee of those present was appointed to carry out a proposed entertainment at an early dote, to be held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, to raise funds for the purpose of giving prizes in the schools in the district. It was stated that several had kindly promised their assistance, and it was hoped a successful result would be attained. After attending to some further matters, the committee adjourned.
