V.R.O. SPRING/ MEETING. [BBUTBB'S TEIiBGBAMJ MELBOURNE, October 30. The first day's races of the Spring Meeting of the Victorian Racing Club took place today at Flemington. The weather was fine in the morning, but during the afternoon heavy rain fell. There was an immense attendance of visitors on the course. The racirg generally waa splendid. Welcome Jack and Ijavinia ran a doad heat for the Maribyrnong Plate, and the owners of the horses agreed to divide the stakes. In the race for the Derby, the finish in the last half mile was entirely between Grand Flaneur and Progress, and they made a grand struggle along the straight, the first named, who started a strong favorite, winning by a length. The time was 2min. 44 sees.

THIS MOBNING'B GALLOP, A very pleasant morniug found an unusual number of visitors on the course, and most of the teams were doing a lot of work. Sir Modred and Sir Garnet went their round at a fair pace, Nautilus and Atlantic going next about the same distance, the last round fast. Borneo and Juliet did half a mile about half pace. Idalium and Hilda were sent a fast half mile, the former going in muoh improved form. Hilarious went about three miles at a fair pace. Lone Hand, as usual, did slow work. Sir George and Talent, in clothing, went a slow mile and a half, and Luna about twice as far steady. Amulet and Sinking Fund went a fast spin of throe-quarters of a mile. Laertes and Kosciusko, stripped, were sent a mile and a half, finishing at top. Tera and York did a mile and a half steady. Norseman and Miss Domett went a useful gallop of three miles, while Amy and the Welcome candidate, Dauphin, with the rugs on, went a mile and a half. Amy runs like a racehorse and looks like staying. Flapjack, a two-year-old colt, by Lillipea out of Fair Puritan (dam of Bogardus) cantered. Adamant, who was looking very well, did slow work. Levant was sent twice round steady ; Hornby and the Govt rnor going very slowly about the same distance. The former went very sore at starting. BadßWorth, Holderness and Virginia Water were sent a strong gallop of a mile and a half, the Skybird colt making the running, but being out of it at the finish. La Mode and Nonpareil also did very fast work, the former moving with much elasticity and freedom. Foul Play, Marie Antoinette and Natator were sent three times round with the rugs on, the old horse pulling very hard. Maritana did slow work.
