It is expected that the Government will shortly remove all proclamations from land purchases which they do not intend to complete, including the Fatetere block. It is said that the Government mean to withdraw from negotiations iu the Arawa district, except with regard to the Tepube block, which has been completed, the Waitahanue block of forty thousand acres, and two others aggregating 60,000. The whole area of land under negotiation in the Arawa district is estimated at a million and a half of acres, on which the Government have made advances. GISBORNE, October 28. The loch Nagar.

The Loch Nagar is now high upon the beach. Messrs Shaw, Savill and Go. hare been cabled to with a view to ascertaining if she is insured, in order that the vessel may be abandoned to the underwriters. The vessel herself weighs over 1000 tone, and there is an entire absence of any appliances whatever for getting her off the beach. The prevailing opinion is that there is little chance of getting her afloat again, although the sea has gone down considerably and the weather is fine. The Weather. GISBORNE, October 27. Stranding of the Loch HagarA terrific S E. gale has been prevailing for the last twenty-four hours, attended with a heavy downpour of rain. The rivers are all flooded, and it is feared that much damage will be done. Messrs Shaw, Seville's and Go's ship Loch Nagar, Captain George Porram, 590 tons, from London, loading wool here, has been driven on to the beach, and is now high and dry. At 7 a.m., the ship was riding with 140 fathoms on the starboard anchor and 75 on the port anchor. She parted her starboard chain and veered out all the cable on the port anchor, and while getting in the remnant of the starboard chain to shackle on to the port cable, the ship parted the latter. A tremendous sea was running the whole time. The fore-topmast staysail was hoisted, and the ship was run on to the beach. Had the cable not parted the ship could have weathered out the gale, as there ia excellent holding in the harbor. The ship is apparently uninjured. About seventy-six bales of wool are on board and fifty-four tons of manganese. It is not known whether the ship is insured. WELLINGTON, October 27. XJrenui Bridge. The tender of Mr J. Oleary, Wellington, for £9SI, has been accepted for the Urenui road bridge contract, county of Taranaki. DUNEDIN, October 27. Bemains Identified. At the inquiry held to-day on the human remains found in the bush at O wake, near Gatlin’s River, they were identified as those of Robert Grey, who was missed in May, 1876.
