MELBOURNE, October 25, Death of Fau Bias-
Mr Howie’s horse Fau Bias, which was engaged for the Melbourne Cup and Champion Race, but which was recently scratched for the former event, is dead. Little BenThe “ Age ” to-day condemns the action of the Government in re-instating Mr Benjamin Berry to his former position in the Civil Service. The Budget. Mr Berry makes his Budget Statement in the Assembly to-morrow.
The Cap. Mata ia now being backed for the Cup at 8 to 1, ia doing well, and considered first favorite. BRISBANE, October 25. A Monster Nugget. A ninety-six ounce nugget baa been found near the surface on the Cania goldfields. It ia reported that there are rich quartz reefs iu the same vicinity, but official confirmation ia required as to the truth of the statement.
