AMBERLEY RACES.
A meeting of subscribers was held at McLean’s Hotel on Saturday evening October 23rd, to consider the question of extending the district to the Waimakariri. Mr Benn was voted to the chair, and stated that as in the sketch programme published, the District Races were confined to horses owned between the Ashley and Conway rivers, and this had been considered by some rather hard on Rangiora residents, the present meeting was called to reconsider the question with the view of extending the southern boundary to the Waimakariri. Mr S. Coleman moved—“ That a foimer resolution defining the district a>s between the Ashley and Conway rivers bo rescinded, and that the southern boundary of the district be the Waimakariri.” Mr D. Brown seconded the resolution. Mr Greenwood moved an amendment to the effect—“ That all races except the Ladies’ Purse be open.” After numerous amendments had been brought forward, it was ultimately agreed to extend the district to the Waimakariri, except for the Ladies’ Purse, which is only open to horses owned between the Ashley and Conway rivers.
