MR CHALET'S LECTURE.

To the Editor of the Globe. Sib, —Will you permit me to reply to & few assertions made by Mr Oaas concerning Mr Chalet’s lecture to-morrow night. Notwithstanding his assertion that this city is “ godlike," there are hundreds of Freethinkers here who admire the sentiments of OoL S. Ingersoll, who doth but speak the truth. Mr 0. is at error in stating Mr Ingersoll is “ low and degraded." No man can be degraded who has been Senator of the great State of Illinois for years, besides holding other honorable positions in the American Bepublic. A man who is respected by all who know him, as being honest and void of any meanness—a man who knows the world is "round" and not “flat.”

Free Thought lectures are given for the benefit of the educated and intelligent portion of the community, not for the ignorant and insane.

To call Colonel R. Ingersoll a “montebank ” ie simply a lie, there being no other way of expressing it, Mr Cass being unable to refute the arguments of the author of “ Moses’ Mistakes,” shields himself behind the armor of slander.

Free Thinkers do think, or why should Mr Cass endeavor to stop a lecture that gives everyone an opportunity to think for themselves, and not be controlled by the superstitions of the DarkJAges. Mr. Cass boasts of Freedom, and yet would deprive a great many of Liberty who simply differ with him in opinion. It is quite evident, Mr Editor, the public are not compelled to attend the lecture, stud Mr Cass will doubtless have the good taste to remain away, and allow those who wish to know more about Col. Ingersoll to attend. For every one who thinks as Mr Cass does there are thousands who do not. Yours, &c., FREE THOUGHT. Christchurch, Oct. 23rd, 1880.
