FERNSIDE FARMERS’ ASSOCIATION.
The monthly meeting of this Association was held on Monday evening in the schoolroom. There were twelve members present, Captain Parsons, president, in the chair. Tho question of the terms of subscription was considered, and it was decided that it be fixed at 10a a-year, payable in advance. Mr D. Mclntyre read a paper on tho true breeding of the Clydesdale horse, after which a discussion took place. Messrs Egan and Doak considered the cross between an Irish hunter and the Clydesdale a serviceable horse, though not to he obtained here. The Clydesdale was voted to be the most suitable and profitable. Mr Mannering raised the question of sorrel and how it was to be eradicated. It was decided, that it could only be got rid of by constant ploughing and frequent grubbing or a sowing of English grasses with clover. Turnip and grass sowing was also considered, and two hours were spent pleasantly. In reference to the question of sparrow destruction it was decided to pay Id per dozen for eggs or lsd per dozen for birds and 5a bonus to the lad in the district who gets the greatest number of «ggs or birds. The meeting then adjourned.
