EDUCATION BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Education Board of the North Canterbury district was held on Thursday afternoon at throe o’clock. Present—Mr Inglis (chairman), Rev. Ohas. Fraser, Mr W. Montgomery, Mr Cunningham. The business done by the chairman since last meeting was approved. Mrs Crowley wrote, saying it had been suggested that she should give a lecture on the Kindergarten system. The Board gave their consent. A letter was read from the East Christchurch school committee withdrawing their recommendations as to the Bingsland school, &0., contained in a letter to the Board last month. Some discussion took place in reference to the conduct generally of the East Christchurch school matters. Mr Fraser took occasion to remark by the way that the question of teachers doing work outside their official position was one that seemed to demand attention. Mr Montgomery said, with regard to the East Christchurch school, that the Board would do well to place Bingsland in the position of a separate school district, so as to reduce East Christchurch to moderate dimensions. He believed they would constantly have trouble with the latter school until this was done. It was ultimately resolved to write the committee, making certain suggestions as the management of the school. The master of the Brook-id e school waited on the Board in reference to the reduction as applied to his case, pointing out that in the circumstances in which he was placed it operated very harshly. The Board pointed out that they had acted in accordance with the effect of recent legislation, but promised to assist the applicant to a situation under the Board elsewhere. With regard to the Little Akaroa case, whioh had previously been brought before the Board, it was determined that Mr Barker’s election must be considered void under the Act, the secretary being instructed to communicate with the committee to that effect. Further correspondence was read touching the difficulty ponding between the chairman of the Lower Heathcote committee and the members thereof, and the Board resolved to suggest to Mr Bamford that he call a meeting of the committee and lay before them certain information whioh they ought to obtain and which he held possession of. With regard to an application from Heathcote residents as to division of the district, the secretary was instructed to write for necessary information. A good deal of routine business was transacted.
