NEW OFFICES OF THE GAS COMPANY.
After sojourning in their late offices for some fourteen years, the Gas Company, following the lead of many of our leading mercantile and other firms, have moved into new premises. These, which, compared to those just vacated—and which were of the Shedifice order of architecture —are perfectly palatial, have been erected in Gloucester street. The new building forms part of the block recently ereoted, comprising the offices of several members of the legal profession—a conjunction which cannot but be exceedingly advantageous to the latter in the practice of their profession. The exterior of the new offices conforms exactly to the rest of the block, which has already been described. It, therefore, only remains to give a brief sketch of the interior arrangements. Entrance is gained by a very handsome pair of swing doors, leading into the public office, which has been fitted in such a manner as makes one envy the clerks who work there. Erom this leads a passage through to the secretary's office, a very handsome well lighted room. Half way down the passage is a small lavatory. The secretary's office is aIBO handsomely fitted, and contains a safe, 7 by 9, which is fitted with gas. From the secretary's office a door leads on to a passage which communicates with the right-of-way, and in which is also the staircase leading to the upstair's offices. This passage is cut off from the remainder of the building, and is intended for the use of the occupants of the offices upstairs, whioh the Company intend letting. The two front offices are very nice, light, lofty rooms, opening out on to a broad landing. Opposite these is the Board room of the Company, which, when finished, will also be a very handsome room. The building his been most substantially built, and finished throughout, and is a great addition to the Btreet architecture of that portion of the city. Outside, the Company, in conjunction with other landholders, have given a right-of-way through to Cathedral square, whioh will at once be asphalted. In the yard of the new buildings, which it is intended to enclose with a briok wall, will be the caretaker's cottage, and the workshop of the inspector for testing meters. &c
