The Customs duties collected at Christobnrch on Satnrday, October 16th, were as follows : -wine, £3 12s; sugar, £33 17s 6d; timber, 18s ; goods by w ight, £2 16s ; ad valorem, £319 13s 4d ; total, £360 16s lOd. ATJCTIONEEBS' REPORTS Mb T. Pkkeck reports sales at his yards on Saturday last as follows: —Theattendanceof "buyers was an average one and biddings for live stock spirited, showing an evident desire to buy horses. Several useful hacks were entered, some of which were disposed of at owners' prices. Cattle rather dull of sale, excepting young calves a few days old, which are worth 8s to 15s each. Pigs, especially suckers and stores, realise very high rates. Poultry scarce, consequently what are brought for sale fetch high rates. Cock turkeys, 9s to 12s each; hen ditto, 10s to 12s per pair; geese, 10? to 12s per pair ; ducks, 6s to 7s per pair; table fowls, 4s 6d to 5s 3d per pair; inferior quality, 3s 6'd to 4s per pair. Cheese, hams, bacon, and other produce doll of sale. Mb J. L. Wilson reports-.—The grain market is quiet, still some transactions are carried through. Wheat is in demand, and really good finds a ready sale; seconds also can be placed at satisfactory rates. Oats—The outlet is very limited, except for first-rate quality, and only a limited market at best. Barley is still the same drag, and I find it difficult to sell except at low feed prices, except the very prime, of which there is very little offering. Eye grass —The season is nearly over, very little doing. Potatoes—There is still the rush of sellers, •without buyers. Prices—Good milling wheat, 4s 3d ; seed, purple straw, 5s ; tuscan, 4s 9d; seconds, 2s to 2s 6d; oats, short, 1b 7d; heavy Tartarians, Is ad; light feed, Is 2d; prime black for seed, 2s; barley, prime, 3s; feed, 2s ; grass seed, 2s to 3s; potatoes, 10s to 12s. Property is enquired for, and really good farms can find a market at fair prices. Light land is also saleable at low prices and easy terms. I have had some enquiries for blocks for sheep runs.
