At a meeting of Bobinson's creditors held to-day tLe trustees' report showed that no-cash-book had been kept up to March last. The bankrupt had paid £SO to John Abbot for the loan of £250 for three months. £7O had been paid on gambling transactions. Large amounts had been squandered in drink. The total liabilities were £4386, the assets for £1445. The trustees reported that the bankrupt had falsified his books. A resolution to prosecute the bankrupt was postponed till next meeting. WELLINGTON, October 15. The Agent-Generalship-
Sir Julius Vogel has sent in his resignation of the Agent-Generalship. He will be told it is accepted, but will be asked to retain office until his successor relieves him. The appointment of a successor is under the consideration of Government.

reply received from the Government to the memorial asking it to revert to the August time-table. It was resolved that the Mayor write again the subjeot and, in the event of not receiving an early reply, that a deputation consisting of the Mayor and Councillors, J. J'. Thomson, and Kingsland, wait upon the Minister of Publio Works at Dunedin or Wellington, and the Chamber of Commerce and the County Counoi; be asked to oc-operate by sending the President and Chairman re•pectiTely as members of the deputation.

A Singular FactThe police authorities have not obtained a •laimant for a quantity of spirits, &8., found buried in the sand at Wangamateri. AccidentMr O. O. Stone, of the firm of Stone Brothers, Queen street, fell out of the hoist of the warehouse, fracturing his leg and arm in two places. InterestingFather O'Sullivan, half brother of R. O'Sullivan, Inspector of Sohools and head of St. Benedictine's, is on his way to Auokland. Waste Lands BoardAt the Waste Landß Board to-day, Mr Moffat applied for a prospector's license. He had discovered some gold-bearing quartz in the Kainwhanau ranges, near Raglan, and he wished protection for his discovery. It wsb agreed to request applicant to state location of hiß discovery. A letter was received from Captain Steele, accepting the Board's modified terms for the sale of Te Aroha block to Messrs Grant and Fosters' colonist party, on the promise that Mr Thomas Russell's claim should be extinguished. The Chairman announced that the matter was now before the Government. Rewi's House. The house for Rewi, built by the Government at Kibikihi, is nearly completed. A large quantity of furniture has been sent up from Auokland for it, and Workmen have been detailed to lay floorcloths and carpets, &0., and to see that the plaoe is properly fitted up as a residence for a chief. WELLINGTON, Ootober 14. The Marine DepartmentThe Marine Department is to be amalgamated with the Customs. Oapt. Johneon (nineteen years' service), head of the former, receives compensation for loss of office. The Escaped Lunatic The lunatic who escaped from the Asylum on Monday last was captured at Kaiwarra to-day. Railway MattersThe appointments of Joseph Prime Maxwell to be General Manager of Now Zealand Railways, and William Mowatt Hannay to be Assistant-Manager, are gazetted. With reference to above notice of appointments it is notified that, consequent on the abolition of the offices of Commissioners of Railways for the North and Middle Islands, the functions heretofore appertaining to those offices will for the future devolve on the General Manager for New Zealand Railways. DUNEDIN, October 14. Earthquake WaveCaptain Thomson, Harbor- maßtor, report ing to the Harbor Board to-day, stated that there was an earthquake wave on the 7th inst. at the Heads. The water is said to have risen 18in. Chamber of Commerce. The committee of the Chamber of Commerce, at their meeting this afternoon, adopted a petition to the President and Congress of the United States, asking for such a reduction on the duty of imported wool as would foster increased commercial intercourse between tbat country and the Australian colonies. Some anomalies in the railway tariff were pointed out, the consideration of which was deferred until the next meeting of the Chamber. Miraculous EscapeW. Forsyth, employed in Findlay and Co'b timber factory, had*a narrow escape this afternoon from instantaneous death. He was working a steam crane, behind which was stacked some large logs, two or three of which became detached and rolled down, one of them striking him on the right leg, breaking the thigh and contusing his left elbow seriously. The narrowness of his escape may be gathered from the fact that the other logs that slipped completely smashed in the shed at the back of the crane which the man worked. The logs, from their great size and being crossed, formed a sort of hollow, in which Forsyth providentially laid. Mr Proctor.
An endeavor is being made to get Mr Proctor to deliver a special lecture to all the children attending the schools in Dunedin and suburbs.

The Government have received a communication from Sir J. Vogel explicitly tendering his resignation as Agent-General. At a Cabinet meeting this evening the matter was considered, and it was decided definitely to accept the resignation, and Sir J. Vogel was advised accordingly. The appointment of a successor, together with the salary and other points relating to the Agency-General, are now under the consideration of the Government. The "Waimate NativesThe Native fencers went through their customary farce this morning, marching to the number of fifty np to within about 200 yards of the constabulary camp, and carrying green boughs, then suddenly hurrying and scurrying away. This, however, can hardly he construed into on offence, so they ate permitted to go through their little diversions unmolested. Whenever they oan do so unseen, generally at night, they erect the Parapara fence, which the constabulary pull down in due ooarse next morning. If the fencers are oaught red-handed in this proceeding they will be arrested, but hitherto they have managed to elude detection. Some wheelbarrows which had been used by the constabulary in road making, and left by the roadside, were found this morning sunk in a neighboring stream, but this is not regarded as a new inspiration of Te Whiti's, and no Importance is attached to the fact. By the Hinemoa, whioh arrived here on Tuesday night, twenty-three constables and two sergeants were passengers from Waikato. Little or no recruiting has been carried on in Wellington for a considerable time past, and tie detachment from Waikato is intended to strengthen the force at the depot.
