ST. JOHN’S CHURCH, RANGIORA.

A tea meeting and entertainment, in aid of the church funds, was held on Tuesday last in the hall of the Literary Institute. The various tables, which were laid out in excellent taste, were presided over by Mosdames Dudley, Buss, Blackett, Downes, Peole, Tribe, Howard, Aherne, Bramley, Manning, Pearce, and Luxton, assisted by the Misses Dudley, Leech, Blackett, Wigney, Fuller, Pearce, and Bramloy. A fair number sat down to enjoy the dainties provided. The special arrangements made for the children were most satisfactory, not only as regards the catering, but in the provision of a “ bran pie” and Christmas tree, so that each child carried away some token commemorating the day. The programme of entertainment was unusually attractive, containing the following well-known names :—The Misses Taylor, whose songs and instrumental duets on the concertina and piano elicited general approbation; Mr W. H. Lance, songs and recitations ; Mr O. Hull, Rev. P. R. Munro, and Mr E. R. Good. The absence of Miss E. Ashwin and Mr Newman was to be regretted ; Miss Carr, however, kindly offered her services. The Bangiora Brass Band rendered several pieces very effectively. The Yen. Archdeacon Dudley presided, and altogether a most satisfactory evening was spent. The gross receipts were over £3O.
