ASHBURTON COUNTY COUNCIL.

An adjourned meeting of the above Council wis hold yest rday. Present—Messrs Walker (chairman), Wright, Saunders, Coster, Jackson, and Cameron. The Council went into committee to consider the water supply scheme for the South Bakuia plain, and on resuming tho following resolutions were adop’od : “ That the county engineer gauge the volume of water taken outer the Ashburton by B id's water race, and ascertain the length and dimensions of tho channels supplied by it; that similar information be obtained as to the volume of water available for (ha Malvern water works, for the purposes of compirisun, to guide this Council upon the plan to be adopted for the plains water snpply.” “ That the engineer be instructed to proceed with tho construction of 75 chains of concrete channel and 1 mile of scooped channel, by day ; abor or otherwise, to carry tho water from Pudding hill stream to Chapman’s creek, and that notice bo given to rescind tho resolu ion of September the Ist bearing on this question.” The engineer was instructed to find out the owners of land through which theso channels would pass, and negotiate with them for half a chain of tho land required. Mr Coster gave notice that at the next meeting of tho Council he would move —“That the engineer bo instructed to report on a desirable sire to make a test drain through the plains from Chapman’s creek, with the view to ascertain tho possibility of distributing tho water in small open drains." Mr Cameron gave notice that he would move, at the next meeting of the Council —“That an alteration bo made in tho by-laws of pounds witbin this county, with the view to prevent any improper chsrgos being made by a poundkeeper.” The Council then adjourned.
