LYTTELTON NATAL BRIGADE.

A deputation representing the promoters of the Lyttelton Nival Brigade, namely. Captain McLellan, Mr F. Dransfield, and Mr A. B. P. Pycmont, waited on the Hon. John Halion Thursday, 7th instant. •Captain McLellan informed the Premier that a meeting was held on the 14th of September, at which the Hon. B. Biohardson occupied the chair, when it was unanimously agreed to accept the terms on which the Government consented to recognise the corps. They now numbered 190 men, and were ready to start at once actively to work, but in order to put them on a proper footing they required to be gazetted, which the deputation might be seen to at once, and they would aleo ask the Premier to sanction the oppointment of a drill instructor. The next matter referred to was the necessity of allowing the members of the corps free railway passes when on volunteer duty, and Captain McLellan also pointed out that they might be allowed the use of the two heavy guns now stared in a shed at Lyttelton, and that the shed should be extended, so as to enable the guns to be mounted. This work would cost about £SO, of which the corps would williugly contribute one-half. In reply, the Premier, who received the deputation, said he would have the brigade gazetted at once, and, with reference to free passes, the members would be treated the same as other corps. As to tho other requests for a drill instructor, arms and ammunition, and the matter of the shed extension, he would see that they got an answer as soon as possible.
