DRAINAGE BOARD ELECTION.

The election of a member of the Christchurch Drainage Board for the Heathoote district, in place of Mr A. Duncm, resigned, took place at the Bead Board office to-day at noon. „ The Returning Officer, Mr W. T. 0. Mills, a aid that the meeting was held to elect a member to servo on the Ohristohuroh district Drainage Board, in place of Mr Duncan, resigned. ’ Mr Hanker nominated Mr Cornelius Cun as a fit and proper person to fill the vacant seat. He would, he felt sure, ably represent the district, and in some measure at leait compensate them for ths less of Mr Duncan, whose retirement they all must deplore. _ Mr E. Toomer seconded the nomination. Mr Caff was a practical man, and would, he felt sure, be a good man. Mr Mills having called for any further nominations, and there being no response, he declared Mr Cuff duly elected. Mr Cuff said that hs desire i to thank them for having elected him to represent them on the Drainage Board. He could make no promises until he got into harness, beyond this, that he would endeavor to prevent the rates being increased, and also see as far as possible that the local industries of the place were festered and encouraged by the Board, even if the cost were slightly in excess of the imported article. A vote of thanks to the returning officer closed the proceedings.
