SOUTHBRIDDE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The ordinary monthly meeting was held in the school-room on Tuesday evening. Pro sent—Mr Frame, in the chair, Messrs Webster, Pattle, Woodbury, and Cameron. Correspondence was read from the Board of Education, sanctioning the permanent appointment of Mr Lucas to the charge of the school, subject to hie certificates being satisfactory. Applications for the post of infant mistress were opened, and after full consideration, it was unanimously resolved that Miss A. L. Henderson, of Ashburton, be recommended to the Board. An application from the Cricket Club was granted for the use of the recreation ground for practice, subject to the conditions that the sport of the children should not be interfered with, and that the club would guarantee to keep and leave the fences in good order. It was also decided that no horses should be allowed thereon,) on account of the danger to children. The master’s house was placed at tho_ disposal of Mr Lucas, subject to conditions mentioned in the Education Act. The chairman was empowered to deal with an application from the late master, Mr Elwin, respecting books purchased with floating capital. The master’s monthly report was read, and the increased attendance considered satisfactory. It was resolved that the master be asked in future to furnish a statement of the attendance of pupil teachers, and the cause of absence of any. Messrs Woodbury and Webster were appointed visiting committee for the ensuing committee for the ensuing month. The entertainment committee reported that they had arranged for a concert to take place on Wednesday, the 13th of October. Other business of a minor importance was transacted, and the meeting adjourned.
