Letters were read from the Board ot Education, enclosing Mr Edge’s report of the Doyleston side school, showing a percentage of 63 having passed the required standard. Mr Ford reported that the number of pupils on the roll for last month was 202 ; average attendance, 137. The schoolmaster was instructed to furnish a list of children who did not attend halt the time. Mrs Smith wrote, withdrawing her resignation for the present, which was agreed to. It was resolved—“ That the chairman, secretary and schoolmaster be instructed to provide a prize fund.” Attention was drawn to the present expensive system of purchasing school books, and the following resolution was carried :—“ That in the opinion of this committee the cost of education might be considerably lessened by the Board of Eduootion importing school books, and supplying school committees at prime cost, and thereby insure a constant supply of books approved of by them.” Accounts amounting to £ls 15s were examined and passed for payment, and the committee adjourned.
