Industrial Home Enquiry. Mr Habens' report on'the Auc&Uid Industrial Home has been presented. He finds that the legitimate authority of the ladies' committee has been usurped by the master and matron. _ The children are ill clad, and the supervision of the Committee in this respect. is defective. With regard to the charges against the morality of the master he says, no man is absolutely secure agairst such charges, but that the master should be one against whom no impurity could be alleged. He considers the master wanting in decision. The training in domestic duties is insufficient, and there is a great deal of slovenliness and untidiness. The matron is incompetent. The moral influences of the Home are not of a high order. He was unable to obtain any information respecting the diet. Itch, ringworms, sore heads, and vermin, were prevalent. He considers the master incompetent, and concludes by stating that a gentleman has privately offered 500 acres of land for the Home within a few miles of Auckland, and within a short distance of the railway. Today's Native telegrams are very meagre. Only one of any interest came this evening, to the eff.cfc that the Natives came down again to-diiy, but decamped hastily directly the constabulary approached. They started a peculiarly doleful strain as they but the words couid not be made out. Had tbey persisted in forcing their way to the fence, they would have been arrested and sent for trial. Should they do so to-morrow, this will be the result.
