CLARKVILLE ENTERTAINMENT.

On Monday evening a successful entertainment was given in tho Olarkville school. Kaiapoi Island, in aid of the treat fund. There was a numerous attendance. Mr George Paterson, chairman of the school committee, occupied the chair, and introduced those taking part. The first item was a pianoforte duet, by Mrs D. O. Hampton and Miss Garland, followed by a song, “ Speak to Me,” Miss S. Monk ; song, “ The La'board Watch,” Mr T. Weston; piano duet, “ Osborne Quadrilles,” Mrs Wilson and Miss E, Weston; recitation, Rev. D. O. Hampton; song, “Jessie’s Dream,” Mrs J. Lowthian Wilson; piano solo, “Punch and Judy,” Master Neove; local duet, “Money Matters,” Miss Pinching and Mr Weston (encored); piano solo, “Juanita,” Miss Weston ; duet, “ Gipsy Oounteso,” Mr Niohclls and Mrs Yauzhan ; reading, Rev. D. O. Hampton ; duet, “ The Minute Gun at Sea,” Messrs H. A’Court and Weston ; song, Mies Monk (encored) ; recitation, Mias M. Brown; piano solo, “Three Bolls Polka,” Master Neeve ; recitation, “King John and tho Abbot of Canterbury,” Mr G. F. Howlings (re-called) ; song, “ The Bridge,” Mr Nioholls; glee, “ The Fairies.” The Chairman proposed a vote of thanks to those who had taken part in the entertainment, which was seconded in a complimentary speech by Mr Neeve, and carried by acclamation. A hearty vete of thanks was passed to the chairman, and cheers given for Mr Matthews, who had got up the affair. The National Anthem was then snug. Several of the residents kept up a dance till a late hour. Tlio proceeds were £6 14s 6d.
