GERALDINE RACES. [PBB PBESB ASSOCIATION SPECIAL WIBB.] J TIM ARE, September 23. The attendance at the Geraldine races was very fair J and the weather could not have been better. The racing was on the whole good. The following is a detailed account Maiden Plate, 30 eovs, for all horses that had never won 10 sovs of public money ; weight for age ; distance, one mile and a half. Mr J. H. Lunn’s Clarence, 6 yrs, 9st 61b (R. Derritt) 1 Mr Hobbs’ Swindler, 6 yrs, 9-t 6ib (Demuth) 2 Mr W. O. Webb’s Knotlingly colt, 3 yrs. 7st 51b (H. Harris) 3 Mr J. Mnndell’s Three Sheets in the Wind, aged, 9st 61b (W. Bradmore) 0 There were six entries for the opening race, but four only came to the post, Mr J. Kennedy’s Lubra and Mr J. Barrett’s Levant being scratched In hie preliminary canter Clarence showed that be had a will of his own, and on going to the flag_ he again asserted his own opinmn by dashing away and bolting. After a delay of five minutes a second attempt was made, and Mr Stansell got them away at 1.20 very fairly, Clarence being a trifle behind. The tipsy one shot to the front, Swindler keeping him close company, while the colt had taken last place from Clarence. On passing the post the first- time Swindler led slightly with Three Sheets second, but immediately afterwards Clarence took the lead, and the local horse fell hopelessly back. Coming up to the starting post again Swindler put on a spurt and headed Clarence, the colt keeping well up but hard ridden. Turning into the straight in the same order, the race seemed almost a certainty for Swindler, but though Demuth pushed him hard Clarence came up and passed him quietly, just clearing him on the post. The Knottingly colt was a bad third, and Xhree-sheets-in-the-Wind a worse fourth. Time, 2min 59accs, Handicap Hubdlk Back, of 70 sova ; for all horses. Di-tanoe, about two miles ; over eight flights of hurdles. Mr G H. Thompson’s Lone Hand aged, 12st 41b (F. Hedge) 1 Mr C. W. Bourne’s Milo, aged, lOst lulb (C. Hobbs) 2 Mr H. Scbluter’s Little John, 6 yrs, 9st 131 b (Armstrong) 3 Mr H. Lunn’s Robin Hood, aged, 9st 71b (Osborne) 0 Mr M. Hobbs’ Swindler, 6 yrs, 9st 51b (Demuth) 0

Betting—Even on Lone Hand, 3 to 1 Milo and Robin Hood, 4 to 1 Little John, 5 to 1 Swindler. At tho totalisator £2l was invested ; £ll being on the winner. The start took place a few yards from the stand. Swindler cut away first, and led the way to and over the first hurdle, which all cleared in excellent style. The race was a difficult one to describe in detail, all tho horses keeping well together most of the way, and changes of position among them being very frequent. At first Swindler obtained a good lead, but he dropped back into the crowd again within half a mile. On passing the stand in the first round Swindler still had a slight lead, but was headed on the next hurdle by Robin Hood and the t grey, and never recovered the position. The field passed down the far side of the course and round the bottom close together, frequently changing pieces, and all jumping in firstrate style. The excitement was intense, and Milo and Lanehand seemed to be most looked to. Milo took the last hurdle first, and the grey and Little John leaped it together. Lanehand then came ahead, and won a magnificent race by about a length, the last horse being no great distance to the rear. Time — 4min. 38secs. Publicans’ Handicap, of 70 sovs; for all horses. Distance, J i miles. Mr W. C. Webb’s Virginia Water, 3 yrs, 7st 51ba (Harris) 1 Mr P. Butler’s Luna, 6 yrs, Bst 41ts (Owner) 2 Mr H. Goodman’s Tera, 4 yrs, Sat 4lbs ... 3 Mr E. Barrett’s Levant, 7ft, Mr F. Shaw’s Adamant. Bat 121bs, and Mr H. P. Lance’s Marie Antoinette, 7st, also ran. Mr R, J. Mason’s Pinfire was scratched.

Belting—2 to 1 Luna, 3 to 1 Tera, 5 to 1 Virginia Water and Adamant. There were forty £1 tickets taken at the totalisator, only three of them on account of Luna. After a little bother with Adamant and Virginia Water, who fought shy at the flag, a fair start was obtained. Tho stand was passed a quarter of a mile after the start, in this order, Luna, Virginia Water, Adamant, Levant, Tera, Marie Antoinette. On the far side of the course Tera took third place, the two leaders retaining their respective places. Going round tho bottom turn Virginia Water closed on Luna, and the issue of the race became very doubtful. The two raced neck and neck, and on entering the straight Luna began to cave in, and hard riding failed to keep her on even terms with the filly, who came in hands down an easy winner. Time, 2min. 16scc. Selling Stakes of 20 sovs; for all horses ; weight for age ; winner to be sold for £25 ; any surplus to go to the fund ; 71bs allowed for every £5 reduction in the selling price ; distance, one mile. Mr S. Osborne’s Bellman, s|yrs, 9st 4lbs (G. Osborne) 1 Mr T. Swinton’s Castout, aged, 9st 41bs (Demuth) 2 Mr E. H. Pearpoint’s Maid-of-all-Work, 5 yrs (£10), 7st 81bs 3 This race waa uninteresting, the three engaged coming in in the order named, with from fifteen to twenty lengths separating each. Selling Hack Race of 10 sovs. Mr Harold’s Barmaid 1 Mr Pearpoint’s Kitten and Mr Saunders’ Linda and Jacob also started.
