AVON ROAD BOARD.
The Board met on September 20th. Present—The chairman and all the members. The reports of the surveyor and foreman of works were read and considered. The clerk was instructed to advertise notice of meeting to be hold re stopping road near Belfast. Mr Smith saw the Board, and requested that a culvert might be placed across the North road to relievo hie paddocks from water. The surveyor was instructed to have one placed there. The clerk was instructed to write to the Telegraph Department, also the Gas Company re removing telegraph posts and lamps out to the curbing recently laid down, as at present they were dangerous to the public. Letters were received from Mr Hole, complaining of the height of the water in the Styx. The surveyor was instructed to inspect the river and reply to Mr Hole. From Mr P. Cunningham re watering Papanui road. The clerk was instructed to reply. From Messrs Harman and Stevens From Mr Harrison re drainage of roads laid out by him. It was reported that the roads in question were not dedicated. The surveyor was instructed to inspect the drain on the main road, and see if that would give any rs’ief. Application was received from the poundkeeper, Heathcote, for permission to pound cattle from the Avon district. The clerk was instructed to reply, giving authority, and also to advertise in the papers the notification that such authority had been given by the Board. From Ricoarton Road Board, relative to formation of portion of boundary, asking if the Board would bo willing to pay the half coat of formation. The clerk was instructed to reply in the affirmative. From Mr McGnlrick, relative to drainage of his land. The clerk was directed to inform him that the Board "authorised bis clearing out the ditch heretofore used for drainage at his os?n expense. From the Board of Health. The clerk was instructed to reply that it is vm desirable that any change should take place. From the County Council re Kaputone creek. The clerk was instructed to advertise notice of public meeting to be held at Papanui on Friday, 24tb, at 7.30, for the purpose of selecting land for recreation purposes. The surveyor was instructed to have the drain near Chaney’s corner cleared out. Accounts to the amount of £6O 17s 9i were passed, and ordered to bo paid. The Board then adjourned.
