GRAIN AND PRODUCE.
Business in the grain market daring the past week has been quiet, but A good enquiry exists for best grades of milling wheat, which are readily saleable at 4s to 4s 2d. Some business has also been done in medium qualities at 3s 9d to 3s 10d. A good demand still exists for flour at £ll. If our millers continue to be as careful on the score of quality in the future as they have been in the past portion of the preseat season, a larger and increasing business will doubtless be the result, and this at remunerative rates. The demand for oats has eased off, owing, doubtless, to the vessels on the berth being almost loaded ; heavy milling are, however, saleable at la 7d, and feeding kinds at la 2d to Is 3d. A fair business has been done in choice samples oI malting barley at up to £s 6d, but there is little inclination shown to operate in lower qualities. Potatoes are most difficult to sell: a few transactions are noted at 15s, but no large sales have been reported. The Warnambool market is no better than our own, judging by the following paragraph taken from the “ Standard ” of 2nd September:—“ Potatoes — The demand at the stores has temporarily ceased, buyers refusing to quote any price.” Dairy produce is unchanged. A small business has been done in hams and bacon at the reduced price.
