GOOD TEMPLARY ANNIVERSARY.

The anniversary celebration of EainbowLodge, No. 13, E. 0., held at Lyttelton on Monday night, passed off highly successfully. The tea which proceeded the entertainment in the Oddfellows’ Hall was spread in the Wesleyan schoolroom by a number of ladies interested in the movement, and who well deserved the hearty vote of thanks subsequently accorded them at the conclusion of the entertainment. Upwards of 300 partook of tea, at the finish of which an adjournment was made to the hall. The presence of the members of the Good Templar lodge established on board H.M.S. Danae no doubt added greatly to the eclat of the entertainment, there being ten or twelve of the exemplary tars who took part in the night’s programme, both in vocal music and recitations. One of the members of the Sea Nymph Lodge delivered an address upon the onward march of temperance, quoting statistics of the advancement it had made in the army. In one garrison, consisting of 5239 men, 1514 were total abstainers. The deaths in the garrison during six months were—total abstainers, 0; non-abstainers, 5 ; in hospital—the former, 59 ; the latter, 557. The figures in the following were respectively quoted—court martiallcd, 0 and 12; reduced to ranks, 0 and 12; defaulters, 20 and 347; moneys in Bank total abstainers, £3788; non abstainers, £3711. The announcement of these data was loudly •beared. Several ladies and gentlemen assisted at the entertainment with recitations, readings, and music, each one meeting with a fall measure of applause.
