THEATRE ROYAL.

“ Old London, or the Mysteries of the Mint,” was produced at the Theatre Royal on Saturday evening to a good house. Otherwise the piece put on the boards was “ Jack Sheppard,” Mr Walter Reynolds appearing iu the title role. That gentleman, it is presumed, would not select such a ploy to display his powers in by way of supporting his reputation as a star of some pretensions. The stage, like all other walks of life, however poetical and refined, has its commercial side, and pecuniary considerations, no doubt, induced the management to give the Saturday night audience “Jack Sheppard.” As events proved their judgment was correct from the commercial aspect. But something more was attained by it than this. It gave Mr Reynolds an opportunity of affording additional evidence, if such were necessary, of his ability as an actor, and his wonderful versatility. His impersonation of the well known character was really excellent, and called forth genuine plaudits from the audience. Further than this, it is perhaps only necessary to remark that the leading character was well supported by the members of the company engaged, and that the piece was well put on the stage in reference to general effects. For this evening a play written by Mr Reynolds, “ Lost and Won,” is announced. The piece is well spoken of, and should draw a good house.
