PUBLIC HALL IN SYDENHAM.

Mr T. B. Jacobsen, of Hereford street, has prepared plans and drawings _of a Town Hall for this borough, which, when erected, will supply the want long ft It in Sydenham of a suitable building in which public gatherings can take place. The site selected is in Fifth street, Waltham, near the Gas Works road. The front elevation gives evidence of a very tasteful design. The main entrance is by a large circular-headed d'orway, surmounted by an ornamental fanlight, above which is shown a very pretty rose window. There are two nice ante-rooms provided—one on either side of the entrance, each of which will be lit by a large double lighted mullton window. The hall proper will bo fifiy feet long by twentyseven feet wide, lighted by six windows on either side, and will give seating accommodation for 300 persons, or, if requisite, standing room for 500. The inner walls will be wainscoted five feet in height, and the other inner portion of the building will be plastered throughout. A commodious stage will be erected. The structure will be built of timber, on concrete foundations, and roofed with slate. It should be mentioned that the front of the building will show a very tasteful cornice from apex to eaves, which will be returned half way on either side. Considering that the architect has been restricted as to cost, he has planned a very pretty building. It is intended to call for tenders during the current week, and it is hoped that tho hall will be opened about the end of November.
