New Zealand 10-40 Loan, 103£; Five Per Cent. 1880 Loan, 102; Four and a-half Per Cent. 1879-1904 Loan, 971. The wheat market is firm. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, 475; New Zealand wheat, ex ship, 425; Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 335. Tallow is quiet; best Australian beef, 33s 6d; best mutton, 35s 6d. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 1,340,000 quarters. No. 1 Scetch pig iron, free on board, in the Clyde, 52s 6d. The Australian ElevenThe cricket match at Edinburgh, Australians v Eleven' Gentlemen of Scotland was resumed to-day. The > Australians went in for their first innings, and were disposed of for 142. The Home team then went to the wickets for the second innings, and when the stumps were drawn for the day had scored 106 for the loss of five wickets. The Australians play against tho Nottingham County Eleven on the 23rd and two following days. They leave England for Australia by the mail on October 8 th. The Wool Sales. At the wool sales to-day, 7500 bales were offered, and a firm and active demand continues. September 18. At tho wool sales to-day, 9700 bales were offered, making a total of 238,500 hales catalogued since the opening. The tone of the sale continues firm. Obituary. The death is announced to-day of the Right Hon. Sir Fitzroy Kelly, Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer, aged eigthtyfour. The Australian Eleven. The cricket match Australians v Eleven Gentlemen of Scotland was resumed and concluded to-day at Edinburgh. Tho homo team continued their second innings, which closed for 130 runs. Boyle, for the Australians, bowled splendidly, and did the “ hat trick,” taking three wickets in three successive balls. The Australians requiring 132 runs to make to win, went in for their second innings, and obtained tho required number with the loss of only four wickets. They thus won the match by six wickets. Jarvis and Alexander hatted well, scoring respectively 43 and 47. Both wore caught out/
South-Eastern EuropeIt is announced that Turkey has sent a note to the Powers protesting again*', their proposed combined naval demonstration, because it is feared the same will cause anarchy in the Turkish Empire. The Porte, however, agrees to guarantee to carry out the demands of the Powers in regard to the cession of Dulcigno if the naval display is abandoned. Shipping. Per Merchant Shipping and Underwriters’ Association: —Arrived—William Davie from Port Chalmers, sailed June 23rd; Earl Granville from Lyttelton, sailed May 20th. CONSTANTINOPLE, September 19. Intelligence has been received here that the Albanians have re-occupied Dulcigno and expelled the Turkish garrison which was stationed there. PARIS, September 18. The Jesuits in FranceThe crisis which has continued in the French Chambers for some days past, in regard to the expulsion of the Jesuits, has now terminated, Ministers having agreed to fully execute the March decrees against the order.
