Thbbb Thimblbs and a Pea. —At the Hoiapoi Court on Monday the Re«ident Magistrate, while remarking on an application for a rehearing, pointed out that in all cases of this kind only a specific statement of the nature of the application could be entertained. Unless the grounds of the application, his Worship said, were plainly set .out, it was possible for the case to come on either before himself or the Hosident Magistrates of Christchurch or Lyttelton, and such a case might otherwise resemble the three small thimbles and the one little pea, the Magistrate before whom the game was presented being placed in the difficulty of deciding under which thimble the pea was deposited. Woodend Cbickbt Club. —The members of tbs above club opened the season on Saturday last by a match amongst themselves, sides being chosen by Messrs. Smith and Judson, resulting in a victory by 26 runs for Mr Judson's side. In the evening the annual general meeting was held, Mr O. S. Howard in the chair. After pasting the balance-sheet, which showed a debit balance of 14s, the the following officers wore elected:—MrD. Crossley, president ; Messrs. It took the form of a watch and chain, and the gift was suitably seknovr.ledged by the recipient.
