FIJI AND SAMOA.

[By Telegraph.] CPer s.s. Southern Cross, at Auckland.] When the Southern Ores* left Lavuka Sir Arthur Gordon had not received his despatches from England, which had gone by way ot Sydney. Mr Lodder, ,„•£ the Auckland Shipping Company, empowered his Excellency to detain tho Southern Cross for a few days if he desired to come to the colony by her, and suggested that the steamer should wait till Friday. It appeared, however, so uncertain whether ho would come on then, that tho captain determined to leave. His Excellency contemplated a visit to Tonga before finally leaving. The “ Fiji Times ” of the 4th inst. says H.M.S. Emerald, Captain Maxwell, arrived in vort on Thursday morning from Samoa with his Excellency the High Commissioner and suite. The Emerald will proceed to Suva to coal, and return to this port again to convey the Governor to 1 . gs, providing that the mail news does not hasten his Excellency’s departure to Now Zealand. A fresh civil war has just commenced, or is on the point ot commencing, in Samoa. The king’s party have taken advantage of tho absence in Savatco of a large number of those •formerly opposed to them to attack all the coast villages to the westward of Apia. They have also made prisoners of some of the chief members of the former Government. The entente cordialc so lately established between the two parties, and the accomplishment of which was so loudly vaunted, appears to have been dissolved almost immediately, on some unintelligible question of native etiquette.
