WAKANUI SCHOOLROOM.

A publio meeting was held in the the Wakanui Bchocl last Thursday evening, to consider the action of the school oommittee in charging the Presbyterians of the distriot for holding religious services in the school. There was a large attendance, and a good deal of indignation at the action of the committee was manifested throughout. Mr David Wilson occupied the ohair. The following resolutions were carried amidst considerable uproar; —"That this meeting strongly disapproves of the action of the school committee in imposing a charge for religious services held in the school-room on Sundays, and protests against it in the strongest manner possible, as both uncalled for and unnecessary, and an undue interference with the privileges of the people of the district." " That this meeting to ask the committee to rescind their resolution re oharges for religious services; failing to do this forthwith, that they bo called on to resign." " That, should the oommittee refuse to comply with the former resolutions, this meeting pledges itself to use all its influence, .and do all that in it lies, to prevent any member or members who have been instrumental in carrying this obnoxious resolution, from sitting again on the school oommittee at Wakanui." " That we refuse to pay a single penny for Sunday services, as there is a principle involved most repugnant to our feelings, feeling as we do, that it originated in a mind hostile to religion. Therefore we feel bound to protest against <it." "That the services be carried on as usual at Wakanui, and should the committee fpersist in carrying ont their resolution, and refuse us access to the schoolroom, that the services be held outside tho school, in the sohool grounds." Totes of thanks to the chairman and Mr Gainey, secretary, terminated a rather lively meeting.
