STEAM SAWING, PLANING, AND MOULDIEG MILLS, RANGIORA.

Amoogat the many improvements now taking place in this township we are glad to bob that the enterprising firm of contractors, Messrs Boyd and Keir, although in full awing on the new Colonial Bank buildings, the suite of chambers for Messrs Ohapmun adjoining the same, and many other minor works, have found it necessary to ereofc new workshops for tho fulfilment -of tho work coming to hand. The introduction of maohinery driven by steam power has become imperative, and a building has been elected in their yards, 66ft long by 35ft wide internal measurement. Here are fixed allthe 'workmen's benches, with every convenient appliance for the facility of work. One of Clayton and Shuttle worth's portable engineß drives the new circular saw mill, by Tangye, Brother and Co., of London ; and a planing machine, by Rogers, of Norwich, Conneoticnt, North America, with which is oombined moulding, tongue and grooving, and other necessary wood working implements. These ran about 2000 revolutions per minute, and appear to do their work with great neatness and swiftness. In addition there are the large •tores —.nainters, wheelwrights', and other workshops attached to the timber yards, the -whole forming quite an extensive establishment.
