CHRISTCHURCH NATAL BRIGADE.

Tho efforts of those gentlemen who have so assiduously exerted themselves to start a Naval Volunteer Corps in Christchurch, have been attended by fortunate assistance from persons possessing considerable influence, and the result has proved most satisfactory. For some time past Mr Pyemont, who was at one time connected with a naval volunteer movement in Liverpool, has been in correspondence with tho Hon. Mr Richardson on the subject, and the latter gentleman interested himself to promote the views of those who were anxious to obtain from Government the acceptance of tho services tendered. As a result, so to speak, of this, a letter has been received by Colonel Packe, from tho Under-Secretary, to the effect that in reply to his letter of tho 11th May, ho hos the honor to inform him that the services of the proposed Naval Brigade at Lyttelton will bo accepted by the Government on tho distinct understanding that no capitation allowance is to be mode to them. Ho is further asked to communicate with the gentlemen who have offered their services, and to telegraph the result, so that the corps may be gazetted. A committee meeting was held in Lyttelton on Saturday, to consider what further steps it is necessary to take in the matter. Some of the loading gentlemen in Canterbury are to be asked to tike offices. A general meeting of the newly-formed Brigade will be held at the Colonists’ Hall,Lyttelton, on Tuesday, 14th inst., at half-past seven o’clock, to consider tho committee’s report and correspondence, and to receive names in addition to those of persons who have already signified their willingness to join the Brigade.
