The cricket match Australians v. Eleven of All-England was resumed today at the Oval. The Australians continued their second innings and made a splendid stand against the bowling of the Englishmen. The innings closed for 327 runs, Murdoch being not out for 153. Alexander scored 33 and was caught out. The Home team then requiring 57 runs to win the match, went in for their second innings, and obtained the required number with the loss of five wickets, and won the match by five wickets. There was again a large attendance, and great interest was taken in the contest. The weather throughout the three days' play was very fine. CALCUTTA, September 8. The Afghan War. The Viceroy has received a telegram from General Roberts reporting Ayoub's loss in the recent engagement as very severe. General Phayre, with his reinforcements, has arrived at Candahar.
