LYriELTON. Tuesday, August 31. [[Before Joseph Beswick, E=q., B.M.] Combos Mentis Oncb More. Peter Pagan, who had been under treatment for lunacy from drink, remanded trom Ashburton, was r. ported by the gaoler to hate recovered, la answer to the Bench, the man said he would, if discharged, set out for Ashburton afoot. He was let go with a caution. Acknowledged the Ohakge. John Jones, who when asked whether he _ was guilty of being drunk and disorderly, said ha supposed he might as well say "Yes," was fined 10s and costs. Air Indisposed Cook. —The cook and steward of the schooner Sissy, a Frenchman, was charged with leaving the vessel without permission. The captain said he thought the man had been wrongly advised and had determined to leave the schooner. He shipped him at Auckland and there was about £7 due to him. The defendant, in reply to the Bench, said he "no comprehend," bnt bis farther answers to the Court satisfied the magistrate that his comprehension of the English language was by no mcaus stinted. He said he wanted to leave because he was ill; the stove smoked, and the captain did not treat him as he should. It was agreed that a doctor should give his opinion of his physical capability for duty, and that he be brought before the Court on Wednesday.
