MR WALTER REYNOLDS.
This gentleman will make his first appearance in Christchuroh this evening in a drama written by himself, entitled "Tried and True," of whioh journals in other parts o£ the colony speak very highly. Ab the piece is entirely new here, a Brief synopsis of the plot may not be uninteresting. A young woman, named Helen Burton, of respectable parentage, is thrown on the world in consequence of the ill-treat-ment which she meets with at the hands of her stepmother. Her father, being addicted to intemperance, pays little attention to his child, who endeavors to escape from the persecutions of the Xantippe who presides over the domestic hearth by throwing heraelf into a canal in one of the low regions of London. She is rescued from a watery grave, howevor, by some London thieves, who take her to their retreat and do their best to initiate her into the nofarious business by which they themselves win a precarious livelihood. _ She ultimately escapes from her evil associates. Having assisted in the commission of a robbery, she allows herself to be captured, and gives information that leads to the incarceration of several of the fraternity of pickpockets in Horsemonger Lane Gaol; she is restored to respectable society, and owing to her great personal charms, succeeds in captivating Lord Eitzjustice and Mr Geoffrey Landfern. Some of her old acquaintances; however, from the Thieves' Den, in the East End, suddenly appear on the scene at a critical moment in her career, and by them she is denounced as a thief, when of course society turnß its back upon her. The result is, however, that, matters being satisfactorily explained, she marries Geoffrey Landfern, much to the chagrin of Lord Eitzjustice,_ a dandy possessed of a small amount of intellect, but not altogether oblivious to sentiments of honor.
