THE PROPERTY TAX.

The following summary of the Property Assessment Act Amendment Sill appears in the Wellington " Post" : —Section 1 provides that that this Bill shall be read and construed together with The Property Assessment Act, 1879, and the two Acts together may be cited as The Property Assessment Acts, 1879-1880. Section 2 runs as follows :—To the classes of property exempt from taxation under the said Act as mentioned in section 26, there shall be added the following—" All household furniture and effects in actual use, including books, plate, wearing apparel, jewellery of all binds, and all pictures and works of art ; but such exemption shall not extend to or include any such articles when kept or used as stock in trade and for purposes of sale." Section 3is as follows—" The statement to ba furnished under the thirty ■ second section of The Property Assessment Act, 1879 (hereinafter called ' the said Act'), shall be in the form or to the effect set forth in the schedule to this Act. All provisions of the said Act whioh are inconsistent with this section aro hereby repealed." The schedule gives the following as the new form under which thf» statements required by the Act are to be made : Schedule. Property assessment for the year ending 31st March, 18 . Property Assessment District: Name : Occupation : Address : In pursuance of the Property Assessment Acts, 1879-1880, you aro hereby required to make a return of all your property in thi ! following form, and cause the same to be for warded to the Deputy Commissioner of you) district at on or before th J , in default of which you will t' liable to a penalty of £IOO and to be assessc - and charged treble duty.
